Bowie State University to host BDPA's regional HSCC, ITSC, and APBi events this weekend

Washington, DC - The Washington, D.C. Chapter of BDPA will host their 5th annual regional High School Computer Competition (HSCC) and IT Showcase (ITSC) this weekend at Bowie State University. The chapter's  special Advance Planning Briefing for Interns (APBi) held each quarter is added to this year's agenda.

Regional  teams currently are training to participate as finalists to represent their respective BDPA Chapter later this summer in Raleigh, N.C. from August 5th to the 8th, 2009. Thousands of dollars in scholarships await each member of the nation's top HSCC teams. Last year, the Washington, D.C. (BDPA-DC) team finished in second place at the National HSCC for the second year in a row. Out of 26 teams, the Northern Virginia (BDPA NoVA) team finished fourth in their first year of participating.

Regional teams scheduled for this weekend include teams from Hartford, New York, Philadelphia, Richmond, and Washington/NoVA.  ITSC participants also include high school and college students from Northern Delaware and North Carolina. During this year's planning session, BDPA-DC also will extend invitations to new HSCC teams for 2010 from BDPA Baltimore, BDPA Hampton Roads, and the communities of  Annapolis, MD; Fredericksburg, VA; Quantico-Stafford, VA; and Southern Maryland.

In direct support of its primary goal to train and maintain a strong STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) workforce, BDPA continues to leverage its relationships with regional minority serving institutions (MSIs), small businesses, and not-for-profit organizations with similar goals.

Some of this year's regional college and high school participants who have exhibited strong interests in high performance computing (HPC) will remain in town for next week's TeraGrid 2009 conference in Arlington [Crystal City], VA.  Learn more...
