NBDPA Technology Conference Highlights

Allstate, Cisco Systems, Compuware, GE Healthcare, U.S. Department of Health & Human Services, HP, IBM, Johnson & Johnson, Microsoft, Oracle, Raytheon, the U.S. Navy, and other industry stakeholders will share this year's spotlight with NBDPA next month, August 5-8, 2009, in the new Raleigh Convention Center, Raleigh, North Carolina.

 

This year's conference also features a National Career Fair, National IT Showcase (ITSC), and the National High School Computer Competition (HSCC.) The Raleigh Convention Center is only 270 miles (4 1/2 hours by bus, van, or car) from the D.C. Metropolitan area. Parents, Teachers, Coaches, Community Leaders, Churches, Schools, and "Tech" Camps are cordially invited to join us, listen to opportunities our industry is offering, support HSCC teams and ITSC participants from our region, click here to pre-register online, and attend one of the nation's largest STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) conferences designed for economic and professional growth for all participants and traditionally underserved communities.

Charles E. Phillips is President of the Oracle Corporation and will be one of NBDPA's annual Awards Gala speakers. Mr. Phillips joined Oracle in 2003 after working with Morgan Stanley, a global investment bank. Mr. Phillips proudly served in the United States Marine Corps prior to his tour on Wall Street. He holds a BS in Computer Science from the United States Air Force Academy, a JD from New York Law School, and an MBA from Hampton University. In February, Phillips was appointed as a member of President Obama's Economic Recovery Advisory Board. In March of this year, Oracle proposed a $7.4 billion acquisition of Sun Microsystems.

Russ Mayer, Executive Vice President and CIO at General Electric (GE) and GE Healthcare will serve as one of NBDPA's distinguished luncheon speakers. GE Healthcare also will sponsor a Health Disparity Exhibit throughout the conference, as well as lead a workshop on "The Culture of Innovation at GE."

LaVerne Council, Vice President and CIO, Johnson & Johnson, will be our Opening Ceremony speaker. Johnson & Johnson is an  NBDPA Platinum Corporate Sponsor and sponsors NBDPA's annual IT Showcase (ITSC.)

The Honorable B. J. Penn, Assistant Secretary, United States Navy, will serve as speaker and recipient of BDPA President's Award for Lifetime Achievement at BDPA Awards Gala.  Mr. Penn is responsible for formulating policies, plans, and procedures for the effective management of Navy and Marine Corps real property, housing, and other facilities totaling 72,500 buildings and 4,484,000 acres with a plant replacement value of over $215 billion.

BDPA President's Award for Lifetime Achievement recognition will be delivered this year by Vice Admiral Harry Harris, USN, Deputy Chief of Naval Operations for Communications Networks, and all Naval IT related programs and resources. The Navy will provide unprecedented insight to its multi-billion dollar IT contract and NMCI's successor, NGEN, during this year's NBDPA technology conference.

A distinguished C-Level panel from all industry sectors will address attendees during our annual Town Hall meeting. This year's topic will focus on the Impact of [ARRA] Stimulus Spending. Dr. Shannon Tufts, Director, University of North Carolina (UNC) Center for Public Technology will serve as our moderator.

Vish Sankaran, Director, Federal Health Architecture, Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology - Department of Health and Human Services will be NBDPA's speaker during Opening Day luncheon.

Gail Roper, CIO for the City of Austin, TX returns to Raleigh, NC for this year's NBDPA Technology Conference. Ms. Roper brings more than 25 years experience in both public and private sectors in information systems management. Her previous work as CIO in Raleigh during the past two years and as CIO in Kansas City, MO, has earned her national honors.
